Whatever you do, if you're house-hunting, don't get caught up the prevalent myth that this is about finding a home for yourself and/or your significant others. Oh no my friend. This process is all about filling out forms, signing hundreds of pieces of paper, and photocopying your entire financial history. Don't let anyone ever tell you different.
